Wildfire Los Angeles

Notice of Public Meeting for August 17, 2023

The “MySafe:LA Los Angeles County Fire Safe Council” will conduct a virtual meeting on wildfire preparedness on August 17, 2023, commencing at 7:00 PM (Pacific) and concluding (estimate) at 8:30PM (Pacific).

Our main presentation is important: on WILDFIRE SEASON IS HERE. We’ll discuss the changing climate, recent wildfires in the L.A. area, and activities related to getting your home and property ready for this fall’s wildfire season. Some new tips, and importantly – new insurance discounts and how to earn them, and how MySafe:LA can assist you.

We’re going to pivot from our typical specific wildfire history discussion, and instead review why Southern California (including Los Angeles County) is so ripe for a destructive wildfire. We’ll share some important input on the disasterous MAUI wildfires, explain why the LA area is so at risk this fall, the impact of our geography, Santa Ana winds, and even traffic. If you live in a wildland area, you won’t want to miss this useful and essential discussion on how the history of wildfires in L.A. is influencing the future of L.A. wildfires. Our special guest from Maui is former L.A. resident and Maui farmer and building supply business owner (and world champion wind sailor) Robert Masters. He’ll discuss his experience with Maui wildfires, the after effects, and how the Maui community is dealing with the tragedy.

MySafe:LA hosts a virtual town hall on the third Thursday of every month, except for January. You may subscribe to our town hall podcast by visiting the wildfirela.org website.
